Ex-Ante Modeling, Load Scheduling, and Differentiated Services Models for Populations of Flexible Loads

Project Status:
Completed

This project is modeling and evaluating the interfaces needed to allow an aggregator (or load serving entity) to harness the flexibility of a large population of appliances in a way that is reliable and economically sustainable. The work is currently focused on development of an overarching model to capture the scheduler problem for large-scale populations of deferrable, thermostatically controllable, and other flexible appliances; development of an associated model for the ex-ante calculation of the ancillary service capacity that the aggregator can offer controlling these appliances; and an analysis of the economic interaction with customers and the design of incentives.
