Abstract | Workshop Objectives: To increase understanding within the electric utility and air conditioning manufacturing communities of the risk of blackouts that may be associated with the growing market penetration of residential air conditioning; To share recent utility industry experiences that provide the basis for this concern and the efforts that they are currently undertaking to address them;To present technical information on what is known about the underlying electrical phenomena, both from a macro or system level perspective, as well as from a micro or device level perspective; To review and discuss technical options, on both the supply and demand-side, to address these concerns, including their cost, timing, and relative efficacy, toward understanding the appropriate elements needed for a coordinated and balanced response |
